The Boundless CF and CFX portable vaporizers came on the market in 2016 and have been popular among users ever since. These two Boundless vapes are mid-range priced but aimed to take on their higher-end competition (like the Mighty) and are very similar (the CF is the little brother, while the CFX is the larger). They were initially advertised as convection vaporizers but the CFX is more a conduction vaporizer. This is our Boundless CFX review.
No review would be complete without talking about build quality and our Boundless CFX review is no different. This vaporizer is covered in a soft grip material which has the feel of some better-quality cell phone covers. It feels really good in the hand and offers extra grip to prevent dropping. It feels rather sturdy for a plastic vaporizer.
It features temperature control down to the degree from 38C to 220C. It has an OLED display, as opposed to an LCD display, that shows a session timer (5 minutes/300 seconds) and a battery life timer along with the temperature. We really enjoy this feature with its cool dashboard look. The battery life indicator, as reported by many users, may not be accurate and can fluctuate while you are using it so that is a good thing to be aware of. When you are selecting your temperature, the display shows the temperature in red and will become green as it comes up to temperature. It also vibrates when it’s ready so you don’t have to stare at the display.
The Boundless CFX also comes with an insert for use with oils or wax, along with tools for cleaning the vaporizer and a power adapter.
Let’s get to the point in our Boundless CFX review that all users want to know about – vapour quality. The Boundless CFX has a large heating chamber that holds about 0.5 g of dried herb. You can tamp it down or not, your preference. It can handle any grind you prefer as well.
The CFX vaporizer produces a vapour that is smooth, solid flavour throughout the session. You will get more flavour at the lower temperatures and more cloud at the higher end. Like all vaporizers, the flavour will taper off at the end but it won’t become harsh until the very top end of temperatures. Users do report an initial “factory flavour” when new so we recommend doing a few quick burn-off sessions to get rid of that. It does seem to go away pretty quickly.
It takes roughly 20 seconds to heat to temperature so there’s no significant wait to start drawing down that flavourful vapour. This beats most other vaporizers at the same price point easily.
The air path in the CFX is slightly more restricted than some vapes, like the Mighty, but when compared to most portable vaporizers in its class, it is definitely more free flowing. There is very little draw resistance in this unit.
Next in our Boundless CFX review, we look at battery life and charging. You will get about 12 5-minute sessions on a full battery with the CFX, depending on how you use it. The 2500 mAh battery is not user replaceable. As mentioned, some users have reported that the battery indicator on the OLED display fluctuates while you use it, which means it may not be as accurate as it could be. This doesn’t seem to affect the actual battery life though.
It takes roughly 2 hours to get to a full charge on the micro-USB but the included wall charger will get the vaporizer up to full charge in just 30 minutes.
It’s time in our Boundless CFX review to look at ease of use. To load the chamber in the Boundless CFX, you simply swivel out the mouthpiece, load, and swivel it back into place. This makes loading very easy. It uses a magnet to hold it in place. When loading you may get some dried herb in the area around the top of the chamber, which will need to be cleaned out.
Five clicks on the power button will turn it on. Then simply use the up and down arrows next to the OLED display to choose your temperature. It will vibrate as we stated above when it’s ready to go. After 5 minutes, when the timer has counted down, it will go into standby mode on its own. To start another session right away just push and hold the power button to restart the timer. Another five clicks will turn it off.
The chamber is very easy to clean but the screen on the mouthpiece can be more difficult because of the way it was machined. The number of times to turn the fitting before it comes out might be a little much but it’s definitely not a deal-breaker.
The Boundless CFX is easily portable even if it is not the smallest vaporizer on the market. It is pretty low-key and it is light at 200g. It charges with a micro USB adding to its portability.
It’s a fairly thick unit for a portable vaporizer and doesn’t hide easily in the hand, even large hands but it will fit in a pocket, purse or bag easily. It will be noticeable in pants pockets, but a coat pocket will be no issue. It will also be noticeable when using it, so it loses points for discreetness.
At a reasonable price point, the Boundless CFX can hold its own against other portable vaporizers in its class though it will not produce as much cloud as a vape like the Mighty, it will do the job and do it well. It’s very portable though not as discreet as some smaller vaporizers, but that makes room for the really cool, helpful OLED screen.
It is easy to load the large chamber in this unit and it’s not fussy about the grind or the pack, which makes it great for micro dosing and allows the users a lot of flexibility without wasting their material. Use is fairly intuitive, five clicks on and off and up and down buttons to set the temperature.
The build quality is very good and we like the soft grip cover on this device. You will get a smooth, flavourful vapour from the Boundless CFX especially at the lower temperatures while at the higher end you will get more cloud. Be sure to burn off that factory flavour before using it though. In terms of battery life, the Boundless CFX is excellent. You can charge it in about 2 hours on the micro USB or, if you don’t want to wait that long, 30 minutes on the wall charger.
All in all, this is very a solid vaporizer for the money. It’s going to make beginners and experienced users alike happy with its versatility, cool display, long battery life, quick charge option and nice, smooth, flavourful vapour.

Both these vaporizers are amazing, and they’re both really good at what they do. But there is around a $105 price difference, and each has their unique selling points, so there is a lot to consider when choosing one of these..
