The PAX 2 isn’t the latest PAX vaporizer anymore, but it’s got plenty of life left in it. The PAX 2 is still being manufactured, still available to buy and still ready to have you vaping after less than a minute of oven heating time. The PAX 2 shares many features with its younger brother, the PAX 3 – including a narrow vapor tube that isn’t so easy to clean. Are you hearing a gurgling sound when you vape? Are you tasting bitter resins rather than the delicious terpenes in your herbs? You need to clean your PAX 2. These instructions will walk you through the process.
Gather all of your PAX 2 accessories before beginning. You might have extra lids, a half-pack lid, a concentrate insert and some extra screens. You’ll want to clean them all at once. Remove the mouthpiece and oven lid from your PAX 2. You can pop the screen out by running a pipe cleaner through the vapor tube.
To clean the lids and other accessories of your PAX 2, place the items in a bowl of isopropyl alcohol. If you’d like to reclaim the resins on those accessories for use in a future cannabis tincture, you can use a strong drinkable alcohol such as Everclear instead. Stir the bowl gently to agitate the soaking items. After about 30 minutes, remove the items and rinse them under running water. If any of the items still have resins stuck to them, you can remove the resins with cotton swabs.
If the body of your PAX 2 is dirty, you can clean it with a soft cloth. To clean the oven and the mouthpiece area, use cotton swabs dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Squeeze the excess alcohol out of the cotton swabs before using them to clean your device; you want to clean with the minimum possible amount of liquid. Rub the PAX 2 with the damp cotton swabs to dislodge the resins and any remaining herb residue. Don’t worry if the metal inside the oven is still a little stained after cleaning. It may not be possible to restore the metal’s original appearance, but the staining doesn’t affect the oven’s performance.
If you’ve been using your PAX 2 for a while, condensed vapor and resins have probably left a sticky coating on the inside of your device’s vapor tube. You can remove the coating by dipping a pipe cleaner in isopropyl alcohol and running it down the length of the tube. You may need to use more than one pipe cleaner. When a pipe cleaner comes out clean – and you can see through the vapor tube – you’re done.
Finish cleaning the PAX 2 by replacing the screen and oven lid and turning the device on. The heat from the oven causes the residual alcohol to evaporate. When the heating cycle is complete, you should no longer smell alcohol fumes.
